Concerts in the Park Lights Up Downtown!

With summer in Sacramento quickly passing us by, it’s hard to believe our favorite concert series of the season is already coming to a close. This Friday’s “Neon Night” at Concerts in the Park was definitely ready to light up Downtown Sac with great food, killer beverages, and music to make audiences feel like summer is never ending. Radio 94.7 made sure to be on the scene to add to the excitement by giving away another pair of GA City of Trees tickets!

As people started walking in right at 5PM, Jon Reyes welcomed patrons mixing Latin inspired tunes with a funk flair. Keeping everyone awake with his impressive DJing skills throughout the night was definitely no problem for his music.

While Reyes kept things alive at the DJ booth, visitors showed off their neon-wear while buying new apparel at Wild Poppy & Co. or hitting up the artists’ merch tent near main stage.

With people grabbing spots and closing-in on the stage, along with their City of Trees 2017 fans in hand to help cool off, The Philharmonik opened first on the main stage. The music producer and artist based out of Sactown not only previewed a new song with Hobo Johnson on stage, he also captivated people with his deeply touching and personal “Good Day”. The crowds from all over the vicinity were hearing every word and meaning, loud and clear.

Before the second set, while we were scarfing down Jimboys Tacos and Berry Lemonade from Yolanda’s Tamales, we checked out some of the newer booths that took up shop that evening. We took a ride and a few selfies on the raft provided by WET River Trips, and learned about how to float in complete relaxation by the Capitol Floats.

Up next on main stage was Trophii! Their fusion of dark dream-pop is reminiscent of artists like St. Vincent and Grizzly Bear, especially with lead vocalist Lindsey Pavao. With moody yet rhythmically pleasing songs to get lost to, Trophii embodies a perfect band to listen to on a warm summer night with blues and purples in the sky.

Back at the Radio 94.7 tent amidst the puppies, break-dancers, hula hoopers, and Kenny the Dancing Man, we were dueling people with our famous prize pong. We were the major plug for lots to giveaway: Movie passes, CDs, Smash Mouth tickets, and Monterey Bay Aquarium goodies (download our app for complete details on how to win a 4 pack of tickets for the Monterey Bay Aquarium).

As Carson Willms and Quinton Pope of Joyzu entered the stage, lines for our enter-to-win continued to fill the contest box throughout the night. This electronic dance music duo from Sacramento showed sure promise to be huge in the world of EDM with the way they engaged the audience in mixing the familiar sounds of electro to those of progressive rhythms for crowds young and old. Joyzu was giving the audience just a small taste of what they’ll have at City of Trees in September!

Prior to headliner R.LUM.R’s exclusive killer CIP performance, it was time to let patrons know who was the lucky winner of the pair of awesome GA City of Trees tickets we were giving away! With a box full of entries, Andy Hawk announced winner Michael Stimson on stage. Stimson hurried towards our booth and told us he was so stoked to see all the bands heading to Papa Murphy’s Park.

With R.LUM.R’s alternative R&B sweeping the area, his sultry falsetto not only covered Frank Ocean’s famous track “Thinkin’ Bout You”, but he also closed out the night with his most popular “Frustrated”. For those that did not know of the artist before his appearance, we can guarantee he gained at least 1,000 + fans that night.

We are sad to say there’s only one more CIP this summer, but we are still excited to see what next week brings! Make sure to come by our booth next week at the final Concerts in the Park of the season to enter-to-win a pair of GA City of Trees tickets! You don’t want to miss it!
